About Us

ROAR, Radiation Oncology Accelerated Research, began in 2009 with hope for a world without the devastating effects of cancer - in our lifetime.

The statistics are alarming. The lifetime risk for developing cancer among men is 1 out of 2 – among women 1 out of 3! ROAR volunteers know that community research dollars are critical to finding the cure for this killer which has already struck many of our ROAR members and their loved ones.

ROAR’s first fundraising event provided research equipment to the UAB Cancer Research Labs at the new Hazelrig-Salter Radiation Oncology Center. Successful events have provided more than $2 million to support the UAB Department of Radiation Oncology Cancer Research program. Rich in volunteers and donors, ROAR is grateful to our friends who have made this possible and to our honorees who have championed our cause. Some of our past events include:

Our Ninth Annual James Bond Gala, “Licence to Cure,” will be held at The Club in Birmingham, Alabama on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 6 p.m. honoring Jimmy Koikos, Co-owner of the Bright Star. We open our hearts to you and invite you to join us in all areas of our endeavors. Together we can make a difference in extending and improving the quality of life for cancer patients, eliminating chemotherapy, and curing cancer.
